HULU LANGAT, May 13 — The Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah visited the Geopark Gallery at SK Dusun Tua as part of the Gagasan Rumpun Selangor tour programme's second edition (GRS 2.0) today.

The gallery highlights Hulu Langat’s hot spring heritage as one of the key features of the Gombak-Hulu Langat Geopark and also serves as an environmental education platform for school students.

During the half-hour tour, His Highness also listened to presentations by SK Dusun Tua pupils on the Geopark programme in both Malay and English, and then joined students and teachers for breakfast at the school canteen.

SK Dusun Tua Geopark Gallery coordinator Mohd Raif Zainuddin said the initiative has been implemented since 2023 and involves two other schools: SK Batu Arang and SK Taman Melawati 2.

“SK Dusun Tua focuses on the occurrence of hot springs in Hulu Langat as part of the Geopark heritage, while also exposing students to the importance of preserving environmental heritage.

“All exhibition materials and presentations in this gallery also involve the active participation of students under the guidance of teachers,” he told Media Selangor.

Last Tuesday (May 5), Tengku Amir Shah began the GRS 2.0 tour with a visit to the Denai Hijau @ Lengkok Golf SS7 adopted project in Kelana Jaya.

The project involves the construction of a 400-metre pedestrian walkway and recreational facilities, which will be upgraded into a green corridor for public use and convenience.

Meanwhile, Raif said the permanent Geopark gallery and dedicated site were developed in 2024 with an RM15,000 contribution from the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj for educational and exhibition purposes.

"Tourism Selangor, together with the Geopark committee, is scheduled to conduct a final assessment visit in October before a report is submitted for the recognition process by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation," he said.

Previously, state executive councillor for unity and consumer affairs Datuk Rizam Ismail said GRS 2.0 would introduce adopted projects involving the construction, repair, and maintenance of infrastructure, with a focus on identifying damaged public facilities to ensure public safety.

GRS was introduced to strengthen the spirit of unity and community systems in Selangor. Its implementation encompasses six main agendas: carnivals and exploration activities, policy initiatives, a unity song, and the restructuring and empowerment of village leadership institutions.

In the first edition in February 2024, the programme toured all districts, starting in Hulu Selangor and concluding in Gombak.
