SHAH ALAM, May 5 — Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah today officiated the Selangor Public Works Department (JKR) headquarters here, during His Highness’ Gagasan Rumpun Selangor (GRS) 2.0 tour.
The Raja Muda was welcomed upon arrival by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, state executive councillor for rural development and unity Datuk Rizam Ismail, and Selangor JKR director Shukri Ishak.
His Highness spent an hour surveying the complex, including its solar-powered rooftop parking lot and autoshop under JKR’s Mechanical Engineering branch.
Construction for the RM36 million complex started in 2015 and ended in 2017, and is equipped with various facilities including a ballroom, meeting rooms, computer lab, and surau.
The officiation ceremony also saw a launch event for GRS 2.0, which aims to foster unity among Selangoreans. The Petaling leg of the tour kicked off today, and will end in Klang in October after being held in other districts.

Amirudin, in his address, reiterated that the progress of the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) is at 79 per cent across 282 projects and initiatives, adding that the RS-1 not only focuses on making the state the most progressive, but emphasises making it more liveable.
“Our progress must reach a balance between economic progress and liveability (as the state) is home to more than 7.3 million people.
“Most foundational is the quality of basic infrastructure, be it in terms of public facilities to public roads used by the people to move the state’s economic activities,” he added.
Amirudin also said Tengku Amir Shah is providing matching grants through the Selangor Youth Community (SAY) to allow each district to enjoy the benefits, be it with new facilities or the upgrading of existing ones.

101 projects worth RM2.69b this year
Meanwhile, Shukri said Selangor JKR undertook 101 projects (70 federal and 31 state) worth RM2.96 billion this year, adding that these involved renovations, construction, roads, and intersection upgrades.
Among the largest projects was the renovation and construction of classrooms for 102 high-density schools with allocations from the Education Ministry (MOE).
“We have issued 41 quotations and are aiming for all Year 1 classrooms to be completed by year-end,” he said when met at the Selangor JKR headquarters today.
He added that four district JKR offices will also employ solar power to conserve energy and reduce their carbon footprints.
“In line with the green energy policy, the use of solar technology in this complex successfully saved RM128,000 in electricity bills last year, so we will expand this effort to four more JKR offices this year,” Shukri said.
