SYDNEY, May 8 — Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has called on Selangor students studying abroad to become agents of change capable of carrying the state’s voice and aspirations onto the international stage.
Amirudin said the role of students must continue to be strengthened through leadership development programmes, including platforms that encourage the exchange of ideas and knowledge such as the Selangor Overseas Students Convention.
“Conventions like this are a highly strategic platform to bring students together to strengthen networking, knowledge sharing and leadership development,” he said in a recorded speech aired during the officiation of the 2026 Selangor Overseas Students Convention in Australia held at ParkRoyal Darling Harbour here last night.
“Its organisation also serves as a platform to unite ideas while strengthening identity and empowering students to play their role as agents of change who carry the voice of the state to the international level,” he said.
Among those present were Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporation) or MBI group chief executive officer Dato’ Saipolyazan M Yusop, Yayasan MBI head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor and Media Selangor chief executive officer Mohamed Fareed Mohamed Ashaaree.

Student representative Muhammad Izz Aniq Mohammad Fariz praised the strong sense of unity among Malaysian students in Australia in making the programme a success, describing the spirit shown throughout the event as extraordinary.
“More proudly, about 82 per cent of the participants are Selangor-born students, proving that the spirit among Selangor youths to transform and build the future of the state remains strong despite being far from home,” he said.

The four-day convention, which began yesterday under the theme ‘Young Innovators Shaping Malaysia’s Future’, brought together more than 140 students from 12 universities across four Australian states.
Among the highlights were sharing sessions by Yayasan MBI, the Future of Selangor Dialogue, Innovation Seminar, National Lecture, young innovators challenge presentations, as well as Google-related courses organised by the Selangor Technical Development Centre (STDC).
The fifth edition of KOMSEL selected Australia as its host location instead of West Asia as part of the state administration’s efforts to engage with a wider number of Selangor students abroad.
