SYDNEY, May 8 — An allocation of RM136.2 million announced under the Selangor 2026 state budget reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening the education ecosystem for Selangor students.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the allocation is the highest for education to date, marking an increase of RM55 million compared with the previous year.

“Of course, this reflects the state government’s strong aspiration to continue strengthening the education ecosystem, from early education to tertiary and vocational levels.

“We want future generations in Selangor to be further empowered and remain competitive,” he said while officiating the 2026 Selangor Overseas Students Convention Australia (KOMSEL) through a recorded message aired at the event at ParkRoyal Darling Harbour here tonight.

He also said RM2 million has been allocated for the development of Selangor students, including conventions, student programmes and the Jerayawara Siswa Kita Selangor outreach initiative.

He added that key initiatives under higher education and the Smart Selangor Technical and Professional Skills Initiative (IKTISASS) include research grants, book vouchers and the Bantuan Asas Yuran Universiti (BAYU) scheme.

“This includes subsidies for Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) and Universiti Islam Selangor (UIS), as well as Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes,” he said.

Amirudin also said semi-free education has been introduced for Selangor students studying at UNISEL and UIS, covering basic tuition fees.

“God willing, this effort is the beginning of our initiative to help provide free education for Selangor students if the state’s financial position allows in the future,” he added.
