JOHOR BAHRU, May 28 — A local man died after being gored by a buffalo while assisting in a korban (sacrificial) ritual at Kampung Tenang in Ulu Tiram, Johor, yesterday.
Seri Alam district police chief ACP Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the incident occurred at 10am and the 45-year-old victim, who sustained injuries, was rushed to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital for treatment.
“However, at about 11pm on the same day, the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital,” he said in a statement today.
The post-mortem findings revealed that the cause of death was due to vascular injuries to the victim’s left leg, and the case has been classified as sudden death.
Separately, a 45-year-old local man suffered a fractured left rib after a buffalo suddenly turned aggressive and gored him in an incident at Batu 19, Kampung Sungai Tiram, on the same day.
The incident, which also went viral on social media, occurred at 2pm, and the victim is receiving treatment at the Sultan Ismail Hospital.
Sohaimi said the Johor Veterinary Department had been informed of both incidents for further action.
He also advised the public not to speculate or spread unverified information regarding the cases.
