SHAH ALAM, May 28 — The search and rescue (SAR) operation for a 10-year-old boy who fell into Sungai Bernam at Kampung Sungai Nilam, Hulu Selangor, has been expanded to a 3km radius.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant operations director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the search for Muhammad Aakif Imran Asrul Nizam was still ongoing as at 11 am today.
“The team is conducting a surface search within a 3km radius from the JBPM control post (PKB), with assistance by other agencies, including the Slim River fire and rescue station.
“Also present are the water rescue unit (PPDA) and K9 tracking dog unit,” he said, as quoted by Berita Harian.
The SAR team initially focused on a 1.6km radius, with PPDA divers looking around where the victim was said to have fallen.
Previously, media reports said Aakif Imran was believed to have fallen into the river while playing on the bank and was swept away by the current.
He was last seen wearing a pink short-sleeved shirt and black shorts.
