SHAH ALAM, May 22 — Politicians have been urged to respond positively to the advice of the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj by reducing disputes and prioritising the people's welfare.
State executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the state government highly appreciates the concern shown by the Ruler, who consistently reminds all parties to preserve harmony and unity in Malaysia.
“On behalf of the state government, we are truly grateful because His Royal Highness is always attentive and never tires of providing reminders and advice to all of us.
“Therefore, we should adopt a positive attitude by delivering the best possible service, whether as politicians or within the state administration. Everyone must focus on their responsibilities towards the welfare and needs of the people,” he said.
Najwan also hopes that all parties, whether from the government or the Opposition, would focus on their duties and service to the people instead of becoming overly involved in the culture of 'politicking'.
He added that leaders should also demonstrate consistency in their positions, both on the ground and in public discourse.
“Reduce 'politicking', especially on sensitive issues such as race and religion. Politicians must be more responsible and consistent in their positions.
“They should not only show loyalty to the royal institution when it offers political advantage, and remain silent when there is no political gain,” Najwan said.
Earlier, the Sultan called on Malaysians of all races to always respect each other’s sensitivities in order to preserve national harmony and stability.
His Royal Highness also expressed concern over current developments that have seen excessive disputes among politicians, causing unease among the public.
