SHAH ALAM, May 20 — The Selangor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) detained two individuals suspected of diverting subsidised diesel using fleet cards at a petrol station along Jalan Batu Tiga Lama here yesterday.
Selangor KPDN enforcement chief Mohd Hanizam Kechek said officers detected a suspicious bonded lorry at about 1 pm during monitoring at the location.
He said checks found the lorry was refuelling diesel before further action was taken by enforcement officers.
“The lorry was operated by two locals aged 45, believed to be the driver and assistant,” he said in a statement today, as reported by Berita Harian.
He said officers then stopped the refuelling activity and inspected the vehicle.
“Checks found the lorry body carrying six Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC) tanks, each with a capacity of 1,000 litres, with some units containing suspected diesel,” he said.
Mohd Hanizam said about 2,000 litres of diesel were estimated to have been prevented from being diverted during the operation.
He said further inspection also uncovered several fleet cards believed to have been used in subsidised diesel purchase transactions.
“One of them had an identification number different from the registration number of the detained lorry.
“This finding provides early indication of suspected misuse of fleet cards,” he said.
He added that both individuals failed to produce valid documents for possession and transportation of controlled goods such as diesel.
He said the total value of the seizure, including the lorry and fuel, was estimated at RM120,000, and the items have been confiscated for further action.
“The lorry and fuel have been seized and stored at the KPDN Selangor exhibit storage facility,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 read together with Regulation 3(1).
