SUBANG JAYA, Aug 28 — Selangor is looking to increase its women labour participation rate to 75 per cent by 2030 from the current 69.8 per cent, said state executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari.

She said the current rate is higher than the national 58.5 per cent average, which proves the state is on the right track in its women empowerment agenda.

“Specific gender equality is measured by international agencies and various efforts have been executed to narrow the gap in terms of education, health, economy and politics.

“However, in terms of female labour, the Statistics Department has logged a participation rate of an excellent 69.8 per cent in Selangor compared with the national 58.5 per cent.

“We aim for this rate to reach 75 per cent in 2030 and strengthen the state’s position as a pioneer of women empowerment in Malaysia and a regional model,” Anfaal said.

She was met after officiating the Gender Outlook Forum, which aims to boost regional cooperation in women empowerment and gender quality nationally and internationally.

“The objective of this forum is to mainstream gender equality in decision-making in all policy sectors and boost government efforts by increasing capacity, in line with global commitments.

“It is hoped that this forum catalyses strategic cooperation and collective action to expedite the gender equality agenda in Selangor and Southeast Asia,” Anfaal said.
