SHAH ALAM, May 5 — Selangor continues to strengthen policies related to women and vulnerable communities through policy improvements and strategic collaboration with the Federal government.
State executive councillor for women’s empowerment and social welfare Anfaal Saari said the matter was discussed during her courtesy visit to the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Zulkifli Hasan yesterday.
The discussions focused on efforts to empower women, including improvements to Islamic Family Law, as well as preparations for the Gender Outlook Forum, scheduled for the mid-year.
“We also discussed the role of religious agencies in addressing gender-based violence, including the increasingly concerning issue of femicide.
“A proposal to establish a National Islamic Disabled Persons Committee was also put forward as a more structured platform to empower this community,” she said in a Facebook post.
Anfaal also cited the need to strengthen support for the disabled community through a more inclusive approach, including incorporating Fiqh Autism into the development of fatwa.
The councillor expressed her appreciation for the ministry’s initiative in launching Fiqh Autism, describing it as an important step towards enhancing understanding and promoting a more inclusive approach for the autism community.
Efforts in Selangor align with plans at the ministerial level, thereby creating opportunities for closer collaboration between the state and Federal governments.
Previously, it was reported that the government is developing a specific module for children with autism through Fiqh Autism to ensure they have more inclusive access to religious education and a better understanding of religious practices.
The guidelines are being developed in collaboration with the Malaysian International Islamic University, Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia, the Malaysian Islamic Development Department, and the respective Mufti Departments.
