SHAH ALAM, May 2 — The state government plans to expand Kita Selangor vouchers to cover single parents who were laid off, said state executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari.
She added that the expansion would ensure more targeted aid to vulnerable groups.
“Applications will be opened to eligible single parents, with the assessment to include Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) contribution records for those who are out of work.
“The state government is obtaining data and cross-checking with the Social Welfare Department (JKM) and SOCSO, seeing as individuals who have been laid off no longer contribute (to SOCSO),” she told Media Selangor today.
On April 16, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced the Kita Selangor vouchers — RM100 aid per month for six months set to benefit 50,000 residents to lower cost of living burdens — to take effect in June. It is part of the RM131 million Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package, which was launched to mitigate impacts of the West Asia conflict.
Meanwhile, Anfaal said the Progressive Acceleration for Capability and Employment (PACE) announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday would also help the people with living costs.
“Aid from the federal government would … absorb financial pressures while (a recipient) is out of work,” she added.
