KLANG, Aug 13 — Selangor will closely monitor bullying in schools, especially in residential schools managed by the state government, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said there will be no compromise for bullies as they could seriously affect victims psychologically and physically, and even lead to death.
“We have never condoned bullying. It must be eradicated without compromise. (The approach to) this issue must be refined by incident location, but it is clear now that it is increasingly occurring in residential schools.
“I want all schools under the Islamic Religious Affairs Department, managed by the state government, to be closely monitored. The effects (of bullying) are too serious to be ignored.
“I will make the strictest moves to prevent (bullying) as it could cause serious injuries or death. Other than bullying, social problems including drug (abuse) are also our main focus,” he said.

Amirudin was speaking to reporters after an aid handover ceremony here today, which saw him presenting a total of RM26.62 million to 873 schools in Selangor.
On the bullying of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir, he said the incident is a warning to all parties, especially educators.
“Zara’s case is a significant lesson to all teachers, parents, and students.
“(Bullying) shouldn’t only be watched out for at schools, but also at home and (a student’s) surroundings. There must be cooperation to solve the issue together, Amirudin said.
