JOHOR BAHRU, May 17 — The multicultural approach that forms the foundation of Pakatan Harapan's struggle must be conveyed firmly to the people, as the principle is now being turned into a political tool by the Opposition.
Selangor Harapan chairman Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the challenge must be handled properly to ensure Malaysians of all races continue to feel safe and protected.
“The issue now is how far we are able to communicate and instil a sense of security among Malaysians of all races. Today, our political opponents are uncomfortable with the multicultural and multiracial political approach that forms the basis of Harapan.
“They are worried because they know that with this approach, those who exploit religion and race for personal gain will not survive. We will continue to repeat this: Malay children are our children, Indian children are our children, Chinese children are our children,” he said in his speech during the Harapan Convention 2026 at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre today.
The Parti Keadilan Rakyat vice-president added that the rights and voices of all Malaysians must be defended in accordance with the Federal Constitution.
“This extreme and hardline political approach may appear popular, but that is why we must continue working. We must remain steadfast in our principles.
"We have evidence from the administrations of the states we govern. We have proof of success in strengthening the ringgit and stabilising the country.
"Now we must go to the grassroots. Whoever we face, Harapan must stand firm in defending the people, safeguarding their welfare, and ensuring that we continue to win,” Amirudin said.
