PUTRAJAYA, May 28 — The Transport Ministry (MOT) has established a special task force to investigate an incident where an LRT train derailed on the Sri Petaling line this morning, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
He added that the team’s findings would be submitted to the Cabinet and made public as soon as possible.
He also said the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) has been ordered to take the most severe punitive action against LRT service operator Prasarana Malaysia Bhd.
“The APAD immediately opened an investigation into this incident,” he said in a statement today.
He also emphasised that the Prasarana board of directors and infrastructure management team cannot continue with a “business-as-usual” attitude, adding that no one among Prasarana’s top management would be exempt from being held accountable for the incident.
“The standards of safety and reliability of public services are not something that can be compromised.
“Serious actions, including dismissal, need to be taken by the Prasarana board of directors against any party that is negligent in their responsibilities, to restore public confidence in the reliability of the rail system services under Prasarana’s management,” he said.
In this morning’s incident, an LRT train derailed while passing a railway switch near the Chan Sow Lin station, disrupting the Sri Petaling line service.
Rapid KL in a statement said the incident was caused by a malfunction of the track switch, which prevented the train from moving.
At the time of the incident, there were 25 passengers on board the affected train, and they were safely evacuated with no injuries reported.
