JPJ defers online vehicle ownership transfer suspension to weekend

SHAH ALAM, May 25 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has agreed to reinstate its online vehicle ownership transfer service immediately and that any system suspension for scheduled upgrades will instead be done during the upcoming long weekend.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said he had called on the department to restore the service following concerns that an immediate suspension would cause severe congestion at JPJ offices and disrupt daily operations for the public.

“JPJ has informed the Transport Ministry (MOT) about abuse and fraud involving the vehicle ownership transfer service, which has resulted in liability that JPS has had to bear.

“As such, JPJ needs to carry out urgent improvements to the online system.

“However, I have advised JPJ to ensure that the system enhancement works do not disrupt the daily affairs of ordinary users and do not cause heavy congestion at JPJ offices,” he said in a Facebook post, adding that JPJ has agreed to reinstate the service.

Loke said the decision was made following a discussion with JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli.

Previously, JPJ said it would freeze its online vehicle ownership transfer service effective May 25, affecting JPJ’s public portal, digital kiosks and third-party platforms including MyEG and eAuto Sdn Bhd.

It said the temporary freeze was an immediate control measure following several official complaints and social media reports of vehicles being transferred to new owners without the knowledge or consent of their registered owners.
