PORT KLANG, May 18 — Selangor is actively finalising the details of the second phase of the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package to prepare for possible increases in the cost of living and the impact of global supply crises in the coming months.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the special task force committee is currently holding intensive meetings to gather data and examine various proposals before the package is announced in June or, at the latest, July this year.

“The package may be launched in June or July. The special task force committee and I are actively holding meetings and compiling data and information.

“We are also reviewing the proposals that we intend to present. In reality, we have not yet fully experienced the direct or compounded effects at this point in time,” he told the media during an event in Westport today.

Amirudin added that although the impact of price increases remains under control for now, the state government expects greater pressure to be felt beginning in July, including on food supplies following disruptions to urea fertiliser supply.

“There may be increases in fuel prices, although the government is still providing subsidies through BUDI, and at the same time, the prices of goods have not yet truly increased as they usually would monthly or after several months.

“The effects have not yet been fully felt, and based on the information we have received, from July onwards, we are expected to face impacts that are far greater and more severe than what we are experiencing today,” he said.

As such, Amirudin urged the public to brace themselves as the state government intensifies various assistance measures to reduce the impact of rising costs.

“That is why I ask the people to prepare mentally, and the government is also preparing to help through various programmes. That is why part of our stimulus package will begin in June, while some initiatives will start in August,” he said.

In April, the Menteri Besar announced the RM131 million Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package to help the people and industries in the state cope with the effects of the global energy supply crisis following tensions in West Asia.

Its initiatives are scheduled to begin in June as part of the first phase aimed at strengthening food supply and controlling inflation.

Last week, the state executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han announced that the state government had begun engagement sessions with affected industry players to formulate more targeted forms of assistance.

He said that Invest Selangor Bhd has also been conducting a series of discussions with chambers of commerce and trade bodies to identify the best solutions for all industrial sectors.
