MB urges simplified execution of Selangor resilience package

SHAH ALAM, May 7 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari wants the mechanism of programmes under the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package simplified so aid can be channelled quickly to people who need it.

He asserted that the measure is important so recipients including farmers may continue their lives without having to navigate complex procedures.

He said implementation efficiency at the district and state administration levels is a significant factor to ensure government policies are smoothly executed without systematic disruptions.

“(Our) experience during the COVID-19 pandemic is very important and can be made use of, which is the whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach,” he posted on Facebook today.

Earlier, Amirudin chaired the Selangor Global Supply Crisis Special Committee meeting with state leaders, who covered several issues including current stockpiles of essential goods and preparations for programmes under the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package, which will be activated in June.

He said the state government cannot be complacent as the prolonged global situation could more heavily pressure the economy, food inflation, logistics costs, and the people’s well-being if not handled in a strategic, prepared way.

“Though there are signs of peace in West Asia, it doesn’t mean things will go back (to normal) in a day or two. We must make preparations for at least (the next) year for great challenges that will be seen in June and July,” he added.

He also said most programmes under the package will start next month to ensure early impact to the people.

He asserted that as the country’s economic engine, Selangor must remain agile and responsive, and build resilience with the people in the face of current challenges.

On April 16, the state launched the RM131 million Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package in response to economic challenges arising from the West Asia conflict.

The first phase of the package encompasses strategies to bolster food security, lower living costs, control inflation, improve public transport use, and disburse targeted aid to vulnerable groups.
