SHAH ALAM, May 18 — The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) launched a door-to-door enforcement operation to recover nearly RM1 million in unpaid assessment taxes in Selangor.
The Star reported that the operation, which took place on Sunday (May 10), targeted residential areas across Taman Melawati, Desa Melawati, and Kemensah. Following the visits, it successfully collected RM20,500, equal to 1.89 per cent of the total arrears.
MPAJ said the operation involved visits to 50 properties, each with unpaid assessment tax balances exceeding RM10,000. The collective arrears for these properties amounted to RM953,214.72
“Four vacant houses have accumulated arrears nearing RM100,000.
“An amicable and consultative approach was implemented to help property owners settle their outstanding payments in a more organised manner, while raising awareness on the responsibility of paying assessment taxes,” it said.
The operation was joined by MPAJ Zone 1 Councillor Mohamed Radziff Hasan and MPAJ Revenue Department director Hasliza Kamarul Zaman.
The council established a Special Revenue Squad in 2023, comprising personnel tasked with recovering outstanding payments from ratepayers.
During MPAJ’s full board meeting in April, it was revealed that RM41 million in current assessment tax and RM4.6 million in arrears were collected between January and March.
The current assessment tax collection declined by RM3.2 million, or 7.33 per cent, while the collection of arrears dropped by RM414,000, or 8.24 per cent, compared to the corresponding period last year.
Overall, total collections decreased by RM3.6 million, marking a 7.42 per cent decline from 2025.
