Flash floods: MPAJ to upgrade Pandan Indah drains

SHAH ALAM, May 6 — The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) will upgrade drains in Pandan Indah as a long-term solution to boost water flow capacity and reduce the risk of flash floods.

In a Facebook post, the council said the initiative, which will be led by its Engineering Department, covers Jalan 6/1 and Jalan 6/6 up to Merpati A Apartment, and extends to the nearby river.

These measures are being taken to address recurrent floods along Jalan Pandan Indah and Jalan Pandan Makmur.

MPAJ said its Urban Services and Health Department and Engineering Department conducted site visits yesterday to determine the cause of the floods.

“The inspection found that a concrete structure of the monsoon drain had cracked and collapsed into the channel, obstructing water flow.

“Furthermore, the scupper drain was also found to be clogged with sand and rubbish, resulting in the water flow to be obstructed,” MPAJ said.

To address this issue, the council said KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd (KDEBWM) will clean up the drains, especially those near shops and the main road.
