KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 — Selangor has started engaging with industry players affected by global economic uncertainties, with feedback from the discussions to inform targeted aid package proposals to both the federal and state governments.
State executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han said agencies under his portfolio, including Invest Selangor Bhd and the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (SIDEC), have started holding roundtables with various industry sectors.
“The engagements are aimed at gathering direct industry feedback on potential negative impacts currently affecting businesses and economic sectors,” he told Media Selangor after the ASEMxChampionChip eXperience talent training event launch at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here yesterday.
Ng said another round of discussions will be held next week with chambers of commerce and business, organised by Invest Selangor, and that proposed aid could involve special stimulus packages tailored to the needs of specific industries.
He also expressed hope for broader industry participation in the talks to ensure better and more targeted recommendations for the proposals.
“We want more parties to be involved in these discussions so more input and suggestions can be gathered for the state government.”
However, Ng did not provide a date for the announcement of future stimulus packages.
On April 20, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government, through Invest Selangor, would engage with key industry players, including those in the services and construction sectors, to assess the support they need to navigate ongoing global challenges.
He said input from these sessions would be included in Phase 2 of the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package.
On April 16, Amirudin announced Phase 1 of the RM131 million package, aimed at strengthening the state’s economic resilience amid global uncertainties.
Initiatives under the package will be rolled out from next month with a focus on cushioning small businesses and the people from the impact of the West Asia conflict.
