SHAH ALAM, May 7 — Selangor has set a 54-gold target for the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) to be held from August 15 to 24, said contingent head Abbas Salimmi Adzmi.
He said the target was set based on athletes’ increasingly improving performance and their high commitment shown in training since SUKMA Sarawak in 2024.
He added that meticulous preparations and teamwork have been the main pillars of efforts to achieve the target.
“We are confident we can achieve the 54-gold target with strong teamwork, as (athletes) have continued training after SUKMA Sarawak… if we get more, it’ll be a bonus for the Selangor contingent,” he said when met at an athlete meet-and-greet at the Sports Excellence Centre here.
Abbas added that he will be submitting reports of every athlete to state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi soon.

“I will inform him of athletes’ growth during training and some small issues. For now, no big issues have been brought up, only small ones related to venues, which have been resolved.
“If there is a problem, it would of course be escalated, but for now there isn’t, and all local authorities are cooperating,” Abbas added.
Previously, Najwan said the staging cost for SUKMA Selangor 2026 would be reduced by nearly 50 per cent from the original allocation of RM100 million. He had said cost controls would be pursued without affecting athlete development and talent recruitment, in line with Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj’s decree.
On April 20, the Ruler suggested the biennial event be delayed until the West Asia conflict has been resolved and the Shah Alam Sports Complex completed.
The 22nd SUKMA will be held from August 15 to 24, while Para SUKMA will be held from September 5 to 14.
SUKMA Selangor 2026 will see 474 events in 37 sports held in 52 venues across Selangor’s nine districts, except for track cycling, which will be held at the National Velodrome in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, while Para SUKMA Selangor 2026 will see 316 events in 10 sports.
