SHAH ALAM, April 29 — The decision to build an e-sports hub on the Carlton Hotel site in Section 13 here will be made after the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) 2026, as the plot is still tied up under several old agreements, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He added that the redevelopment needs time as it involves prior deals that must be respected and resolved, and said the state government has been making moves to acquire the land.
“In 2026, the state administration will finalise the land transfer, and there are only a few more (dealings) to finalise previous agreements.
“This is as the (redevelopment) has a long history, having started as an office, then a hostel, then a hotel, before it was shut due to effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“There are agreements that are tying up (this land) that might block (this redevelopment), so we are waiting for the right time, and I think now Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporation) is studying with several parties recommendations that have started coming in since last year,” he said in response to Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Pua Pei Ling’s query for updates on the e-sports hub redevelopment during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.
Amirudin added that the State Executive Council has approved the transfer of the Carlton Hotel site to MBI.
“MBI will be given the mandate to lead the development of the site, including to install hoarding around the area as early preparations for the commercial development.
“Recommendations also encompass e-sports components as part of the overall development, while plan details will be finalised in future periodic engagement sessions with the state executive council,” he explained.
In November 2024, Amirudin announced a recommendation to redevelop Carlton Hotel into an e-sports hub with a RM1 million investment, to turn it into an international e-sports championship venue.
