State targets 10 e-sports gold medals at SUKMA 2026

SHAH ALAM, April 28 — Selangor’s e-sports team is targeting at least 10 gold medals at the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) 2026, said Kota Damansara assemblyman Muhammad Izuan Ahmad Kasim.

He said this is a realistic target based on the team’s meticulous preparations and lineup strengths.

“I’ve been informed by the team manager that Selangor’s e-sports athletes can contribute at least 10 gold,” Izuan told Media Selangor at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly hall here yesterday. “We’re confident we can ‘tapau’ all gold medals in e-sports categories.”

According to him, the team has been preparing by choosing the best members in several main disciplines like Mobile Legends and e-chess.

He added that Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj’s consent for the Games to go on was a spirit boost for athletes after a time of uncertainty.

Meanwhile, Izuan said Kota Damansara has a shooting range that will be a venue for SUKMA 2026.

“I was informed by and witnessed the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and Public Works Department (JKR) pave the roads to the shooting range to facilitate access.

“Various upgrades have also been done with the Selangor Shooting Association to ensure facilities are in optimum condition,” he added.

He also asserted that the main reason to stage SUKMA should be for athlete development.

“SUKMA isn’t about (politicians), VVIPs, the menteri besar or excos, but about the athletes.

“If need be, the opening and closing ceremonies can be low-key or cancelled to save costs and give focus to athletes. For me, it won’t be a problem because the priority is the athletes,” Izuan said.
