SHAH ALAM, Sept 6 — The state has recorded an estimated 4.14 million tourist arrivals in the first half of 2025 (January to June), according to Tourism Selangor.
It said that of this number, 72 per cent or 2.97 million were domestic tourists, while the remaining 28 per cent or 1.17 million were international visitors.
"Overall tourist arrivals for the first six months of the Visit Selangor Year (VSY) 2025 showed an encouraging increase of 13.8 per cent compared to the same period in 2024.
"Both the domestic and international markets posted positive growth rates of 15.0 per cent and 11.0 per cent, respectively, during this period," Tourism Selangor said in its Tourism Statistics Report released today.
The bulk of domestic arrivals came from five states and territories: Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Perak, Pahang, and Penang, contributing 34.1 per cent of the total domestic tourist arrivals to Selangor.
"Meanwhile, international tourists from China, Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, and India continued to make up the top five foreign markets, accounting for 51.0 per cent of the total international arrivals to the state.
"Performance for the first half of the year represents 51 per cent of the overall target of eight million tourist arrivals set under VSY2025.
"We hope the momentum of tourist arrivals to Selangor will continue to grow in the final six months of the year, so as to achieve the targeted eight million visitors," it said.
