SHAH ALAM, Sept 4 — The Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI Foundation has provided RM500 in cash assistance and a laptop to 150 school students affected by the Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion incident.
Its chief Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said a special counter was opened at Bangunan Darul Ehsan starting on Tuesday (September 4) until today to facilitate the aid distribution.
“Through the contribution handed over by Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari at Masjid Putra Heights previously, we found that some student data had been overlooked, leading to complaints from those who did not receive aid.
“Subsequently, we obtained data from the Selangor Social Welfare Department and the Petaling District and Land Office for cross-checking with school records. Once updated, the aid was finally able to be channelled,” he told Media Selangor.
Azri added that the cash assistance was allocated through the MBI Foundation, involving students from 30 schools, including private ones, while the laptops were contributed by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
“I hope the recipients will make the best use of this aid for educational purposes. This is a reflection of the state government and MBI’s concern for their well-being after the incident.
“My thanks to Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil for his support in approving the allocation through MCMC for the provision of these laptops,” he said.
