KLANG, Sept 2 — Preparations for the Malaysian Games (Sukma) 2026 are on track, with upgrading works on several sports facilities expected to be completed by March next year.
State executive councillor for sports Mohd Najwan Halimi said works are particularly focused on several key venues, including the Darul Ehsan Aquatic Centre in Shah Alam, the National Shooting Range in Subang, and Pandamaran Hockey Stadium here.
“Work is currently underway to upgrade all existing facilities, including those under local authorities, and is expected to be completed by March,” he said.
Najwan said this at the 2025 Selangor State Schools Silat Championship, which took place at KSL Esplanade Mall here yesterday.
On July 22, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced that the Sukma Games 2026 will run from August 15 to 24, with the Para Sukma scheduled from September 5 to 14.
He said the opening ceremony of the biennial games will be held at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC).
Previously, on July 8, Najwan had said that the state government was not planning to build new venues for the Sukma 2026, and would instead focus on upgrading existing stadiums and repairing other sports facilities.
He said the decision was made as such a move is more cost efficient.
