KUALA LUMPUR, April 22 — Any decision on the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) Selangor 2026 will only be known after a special committee meeting on April 30, said Youth and Sports Minister Mohammed Taufiq Johari.
He said he is awaiting official notification and feedback from Selangor on the proposed postponement.
“Any decision involving SUKMA must be made collectively. Not only the Youth and Sports Ministry, but also the SUKMA Supreme Committee, executive members from all states in Malaysia, the National Sports Council, State Sports Councils, the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), and other bodies, so we can make a joint decision.
“God willing, if there are no obstacles, perhaps on April 30 we will discuss the way forward and things that should be considered on staging SUKMA,” he said when met after a launch event at the National Sports Institute here today.
On Monday, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, when opening the 15th Selangor State Legislative Assembly, suggested SUKMA Selangor 2026 be postponed due to the global supply crisis and so the Shah Alam Sports Complex can be completed.
