SHAH ALAM, Aug 28 — The state government is confident this year’s Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) will exceed the RM13.86 billion in potential transactions recorded in 2024.
However, state executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han did not provide a specific target when asked to comment on the matter.
He said this year’s edition is drawing more new exhibitors across various sectors, including food and beverage, aerospace, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and the care economy.
“Many of the companies are Malaysian, but we also have participants from across Asean and Europe.
“The focus is not only on transaction value or visitor numbers, but on promoting the sectors Selangor wants to champion,” he told the press after the official launch of SIBS 2025 at the Shah Alam Convention Centre today.
Ng added that last year’s summit had set a high bar with RM13.86 billion in recorded transactions, but stressed that stronger investor interest this year and a consolidated format give Selangor reason for optimism, despite global trade uncertainty driven by regional conflicts and the United States’ (US) reciprocal tariffs.
He urged businesses to see Selangor as the best entry point into Southeast Asia.
“Looking at the 19 per cent tariff imposed by the US on Malaysia, it is almost similar to other nations in the region. But we want businesses to look beyond Selangor’s 7.2 million people and recognise that we provide a strong base into Asean,” Ng said.
He noted that the Selangor Aero Park at KLIA Aeropolis will be the main showcase this year, as the state seeks to position itself as a major regional hub for the aerospace industry.
This year, the annual Selangor Aviation Show (SAS) has been rebranded as the Selangor Aerospace Summit and will be held in conjunction with SIBS, with a sharper focus on trade participants rather than the large-scale wing displays that drew thousands to the SkyPark Regional Aviation Centre in previous editions.
Similarly, the Selangor International Care Summit will debut this year, already drawing participation from 60 companies, revealed Ng.
SIBS 2025 will run from October 8 to October 11 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, featuring six core components: the Selangor International F&B Expo, the Selangor Investment and Industrial Park Expo, the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention, the Selangor Asean Business Conference, SAS, and the Selangor International Care Summit.
Organised by Invest Selangor Bhd, the four-day summit is expected to attract international exhibitors, government agencies, and regional business leaders.
