Indonesia condemns Israeli strikes on Gaza, including Indonesian Hospital

JAKARTA, May 20 — Indonesia has issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s continued military operations across the Gaza Strip, including strikes near the Indonesian Hospital in Bait Lahia, North Gaza.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the attacks on civilian infrastructure as “grave violations of international law, international humanitarian law, and human rights.”

“Indonesia urges the United Nations Security Council and the international community to take decisive action to uphold international law and end Israel’s atrocities,” it wrote on its official X (formerly Twitter) account.

The ministry also called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, as well as unrestricted access for humanitarian aid to reach those affected.

Meanwhile, Indonesian humanitarian organisation MER-C reported that an Israeli quadcopter strike hit the generator centre of the Indonesian Hospital in North Gaza at 12.43am local time on Tuesday, causing a fire that severely damaged three generators.

MER-C volunteer Abeed said the attack disrupted water and electricity supplies, as well as a transmission tower, sparking panic among residents and hospital staff.

The diesel generators, vital for hospital operations, were dangerously close to fuel tanks, increasing the risk of a larger fire.

MER-C added that attacks in the hospital area continue this afternoon. Twenty hospital staff and local volunteers are currently on site.
