MBI allocates RM20,000 for period poverty programme

PETALING JAYA, Aug 28 — The Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, has allocated RM20,000 to donate sanitary pads for its Period Poverty Care campaign.

Its Corporate Social Responsibility head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said MBI introduced the maiden programme to assist women who cannot buy products to manage their periods due to financial difficulties.

"Sanitary pads are a necessity that we sometimes overlook when giving contributions such as food baskets, diapers, and baby milk.

"InsyaAllah (God willing), we may continue with this campaign in the future, and if there is a request from any party, we will increase the allocation," he told SelangorKini.

He said almost 3,000 packs of sanitary pads would be distributed throughout Selangor, and today, a total of 250 packs were distributed around Kelana Jaya.

"The selection of recipients is made based on searches by local council members, village heads and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

"Hopefully, this assistance will open up the eyes of NGOs or any corporate body to include sanitary pads as one of the items in assisting B40 individuals," he said.
