Macron swears in angry exchange with residents of cyclone-hit Mayotte

MAMOUDZOU, Dec 22 — Angry residents of a Mayotte neighbourhood damaged by Cyclone Chido heckled French President Emmanuel Macron, who replied they would be in "deeper shit" without France as he toured the Indian Ocean archipelago.

Mayotte cyclone kills hundreds, maybe thousands, in worst storm in century

PARIS/MORONI — Several hundred people and possibly even thousands may have been killed when the most powerful cyclone in nearly a century hit the French Indian Ocean archipelago of Mayotte, a senior local French official said yesterday.
