KUALA LUMPUR, June 3 — Parti Keadilan Rakyat is expected to finalise its candidate lists and the number of seats it will contest in the Johor State Election in two weeks.
Its vice president Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said they are now focusing on seat allocation negotiations, machinery coordination, and candidate selection to ensure its preparation for the election is at the highest form.
“We had considered the possibility of disbanding the Johor State Legislative Assembly for the past two months, and all preparations have been arranged.
“With this current disbandment, the party needs to move faster to ensure the issues of seat allocation, logistical preparations, and candidate selection can be completed as soon as possible,” he said during the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair 2026 yesterday.
Amirudin, who is also Keadilan’s joint election director, is confident that its close relationship within Pakatan Harapan will ease the seat allocation process among the component parties in the coalition.
“I believe with the close relationship and cooperation among Harapan leaders, all matters regarding seat allocation can be finalised within the allocated time period.
“If there are any situations that require consideration regarding cooperation with a specific coalition, that matter will be discussed by Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim alongside the top leadership,” he said.
The Johor State Legislative Assembly, which has 56 seats, was officially disbanded on Monday (June 1) to make way for the 16th Johor State Election.
The disbandment was announced by Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi after receiving the consent of the Regent of Johor Tunku Mahkota Ismail.
In the 2022 Johor State Election, Barisan Nasional won 40 seats, Harapan won 12 seats, Perikatan Nasional won three seats, and MUDA won one seat.
The Election Commission is expected to hold a special meeting in the near future to determine key dates for the election, including candidate nominations, early voting, and polling day.
