SHAH ALAM, June 2 — A fire broke out at a factory manufacturing transformers and equipment for Tenaga Nasional Bhd in the Sungai Purun Industrial Area in Semenyih, early today.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the department received an emergency call at 4.29am and immediately deployed firefighters from the Semenyih Fire and Rescue Station to the scene.
He said in a statement that the blaze had already spread when the firefighters arrived, with an estimated 40 per cent of the 18.6-metre by 9.3-metre facility affected.
Firefighters began operations immediately upon arrival, with assistance from the Bangi and Kajang Fire and Rescue Stations.
Mukhlis said the operation involved 18 personnel utilising four 300-foot hose lines and three nozzles.
Assets deployed to the scene included a fire rescue tender from the Semenyih Fire and Rescue Station, a light fire rescue tender from the Kajang Fire and Rescue Station, and a second fire rescue tender alongside a water tanker from Bangi Fire and Rescue Station.
Mukhlis confirmed that approximately 90 per cent of the fire had been extinguished by 9.30am while overhaul works were still on going.
He added that no casualties were reported in the incident.
