Rajiv determined to ensure smooth development of new PJ Hospital

SHAH ALAM, June 2 — Bukit Gasing state assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran is determined to ensure the planning and construction of the new Petaling Jaya Hospital runs smoothly without any delays.

He said that his team will work closely with the Health Ministry (MOH) and the state government to ensure that the hospital can be built and operated efficiently to meet the needs of the community.

“I would like to express my highest appreciation to the MOH and the state government for the spirit of cooperation and political commitment shown in finalising this site.

“Witnessing the leadership of both the federal and state governments working in alignment to realise this project marks the culmination of years of effort involving continuous groundwork, debates, and feedback from the local community,” he said in a statement.

Rajiv said the effort to secure a public hospital specifically for the residents of Petaling Jaya has been one of the main agendas he has championed for more than a decade.

He said the matter was first raised in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting on March 30, 2016, when he urged the then state administration to identify and allocate a suitable site for the construction of the hospital.

“Looking at the policy that I have been fighting for since 2016 to finally reach this crucial point is deeply rewarding and satisfying.

“This is not just a victory in the effort to fight for public policy, it is a major win for the people of Bukit Gasing who deserve access to quality, affordable, and easily accessible public healthcare services close to where they live.”

Rajiv described the decision to finalise the Petaling Jaya Hospital site as a historic achievement that will benefit the residents of Bukit Gasing and the surrounding Petaling Jaya communities, who have long faced the strain of lack of public healthcare facilities.

On May 27, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad announced that a six hectare site in Taman Medan, which currently houses the X Park PJ South sports complex, has been identified as the proposed location for the new Petaling Jaya Hospital.

On the same day, Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the 500 bed capacity hospital, which will be developed with a vertical concept, meets the needs of the residents in terms of accessibility, capacity, land cost and its proximity to the local community.
