AMPANG JAYA, June 1 — The Ampang Look Out Point (ALOP) Summit, which reopened in March, continues to attract significant attention from both local and international visitors as one of Selangor’s newest tourism destinations.

Tourism Selangor chief executive officer Chua Yee Ling said the location has become a popular choice because it offers sweeping views showcasing the beauty of Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley from an elevated vantage point.

The venue not only welcomes foreign tourists but has also become a favourite destination among local residents, particularly during weekends.

“This ALOP Summit destination has become an attraction not only for international visitors. In fact, on weekends, we can see many locals coming here as well,” she said during a Malaysia-China dinner event attended by more than 100 tourists from China last night.

Chua added that visitors to the site often choose sunset hours to enjoy the scenery and capture photographs against the backdrop of Kuala Lumpur’s skyline.

“From here, we can enjoy beautiful views of the Klang Valley. Most visitors prefer to come during sunset, when they can take stunning photographs of the setting sun,” she said.

Chua also described the ALOP Summit as a unique destination because it combines natural surroundings with proximity to the city.

“In my view, this is a new destination located near the city and within a recreational forest. International tourists who come here can experience a tropical forest environment,” she said.

Beyond serving as a tourism attraction, the area also has the potential to host various programmes involving local communities.

Chua noted that Tourism Selangor is expanding the state’s tourism offerings, including efforts to rebrand the ALOP Summit, which had been closed for the past 10 years.

“Tourism Selangor is currently increasing the number of tourism products available. The ALOP Summit is not entirely a new product; rather, it has been rejuvenated and transformed into a destination after being closed for a decade.

“Now, the ALOP Summit has been rebranded as a destination that can also serve as a venue for organising programmes, particularly for local communities,” she said.

The summit was reopened to the public as a new tourist attraction in Selangor following a comprehensive upgrade and redevelopment.

Officially reopened by Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari on Saturday (May 30), the project reflects the state government’s commitment to strengthening the tourism sector, particularly in high-potential areas such as Hulu Langat.

The redevelopment project is fully financed by the private sector and carried out in two phases, with full completion expected next year.

The first phase, already completed, involved an investment of RM10 million, while the second phase is expected to bring the total project cost to RM25 million.

Situated within a Lowland Dipterocarp Forest at an elevation of 260m above sea level, the ALOP Summit offers expansive views covering much of Kuala Lumpur.

The area has also become a popular venue for evening leisure activities among young people and a favoured destination for the cycling community.
