KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 — Four local men were arrested after driving dangerously and fleeing from a police patrol car from Kota Damansara to Air Panas early this morning.
Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Shamsudin Mamat said the incident began at 2.23am when members of a police patrol car tried to inspect a black Honda Odyssey multi-purpose vehicle.
During the incident, the vehicle in which all the suspects were travelling was spotted in a suspicious condition at Persiaran Industri Kota Damansara near a petrol station.
"However, the suspect refused to stop the vehicle after being instructed to do so; instead, they fled and drove aggressively towards the city centre.
"The police's swift action, however, succeeded in intercepting the vehicle at Jalan Air Jernih, Air Panas, Kuala Lumpur, before arresting the four suspects," he said in a statement.
Shamsudin added that an inspection of the vehicle found various equipment suspected of being used for theft and housebreaking.
Among the items seized were a machete, a chisel, an iron cutter, a goat claw, a screwdriver, and a ratchet.
Commenting on the background of the suspects, who are in their 30s, he said the check found they had between 15 and 19 previous criminal records involving various offences, with three of them having wanted-individual status.
All the suspects were remanded for two days until tomorrow, and the case is being investigated, among others, under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the performance of his duties and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.
