KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 — Penang, Johor, Selangor, Sarawak, and the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory dominated Malaysia’s exports, accounting for 88.9 per cent of April 2026’s total, said the Malaysian Statistics Department (DOSM).

In the Export-Import Statistics by State April 2026 report released today, Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin said exports in April 2026 reached RM182.7 billion against RM154 billion a year ago, a RM49.2 billion year-on-year (y-o-y) increase.

Penang was the top exporter, contributing 45.1 per cent, followed by Johor (19.7 per cent), Selangor (14.6 per cent), Sarawak (5.3 per cent), and Kuala Lumpur (4.2 per cent).

The increase was attributed to the higher exports in Penang (+RM33.5 billion), Johor (+RM9.7 billion), WP Kuala Lumpur (+RM3.5 billion), Selangor (+RM2.5 billion), and Sarawak (+RM490.1 million).

Other state contributors include Perak (+RM472.2 million), Terengganu (+RM404.6 million), Sabah (+RM188.3 million), Perlis (+RM26.7 million), and Negeri Sembilan (+RM25.2 million).

However, exports decreased in Pahang by RM573.5 million, Labuan (-RM289.1 million), Kedah (-RM188.6 million), Melaka (-RM158.2 million), and Kelantan (-RM11.8 million).

Meanwhile, he said April 2026’s imports rose by 20 per cent to RM25.6 billion.

The increase was attributed to higher imports across most states, including Johor (+RM18.6 billion), Penang (+RM9.6 billion), Sarawak (+RM517.6 million), Perak (+RM322.5 million), Kedah (+RM294.8 million), and Labuan (+RM289.1 million).

Other states that contributed to the increase in imports were Sabah (+RM211.6 million), Terengganu (+RM165.4 million), Negeri Sembilan (+RM127.0 million), Pahang (+RM58.2 million), and Perlis (+RM40.9 million).

Imports fell in Selangor by RM2 billion, Kuala Lumpur (-RM1.3 billion), Kelantan (-RM27.1 million), and Melaka (-RM8.0 million).

Johor dominated Malaysia’s imports with a share of 28 per cent, followed by Penang (25.3 per cent), Selangor (23.4 per cent), Kuala Lumpur (7.8 per cent), and Kedah (4.4 per cent).
