SHAH ALAM, May 26 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) is taking immediate mitigation measures to resolve the issue of recurring flash floods and water overflow at the Bukit Jelutong Toll Plaza area and the Jalan Pegaga U12/9 tunnel.
For the toll plaza flooding, among the ‘quick win’ measures that have been and will be implemented is the maintenance and cleaning of boundary drains between MBSA and the Bukit Jelutong Toll area.
Highway concessionaire PLUS Malaysia Bhd will also install water pumps, while the monsoon drainage system owned by the Drainage and Irrigation Department will be cleaned to help speed up water outflow during heavy rain.
Meanwhile, in the Jalan Pegaga U12/9 area, MBSA said that PLUS has raised the height of the drain inlet walls to reduce water overflow and is carrying out maintenance works within the Right of Way area.
“Long-term solutions were also outlined, involving infrastructure upgrades to the drainage system at the site to reduce the risk of water overflow in the future,” it said in a Facebook post last night, after a site visit to identify and coordinate action.
The visit was led by Shah Alam Deputy Mayor Safriah Md Adzhar and attended by MBSA Waste Management and Sustainability Department deputy director Haslina Ab Aziz, the Engineering Department’s Drainage Section, the Petaling district JPS, PLUS Section C6 manager Patil Humu Harun, and representatives from the North-South Expressway Central Link and New Klang Valley Expressway.
