SHAH ALAM, May 24 — The state government is reviewing feedback from various parties, including local communities, to strengthen the development of the Selangor Care Navigator initiative to assist senior citizens and the ‘sandwich’ generation facing the challenges of caring for their families.
State executive councillor for women’s empowerment and social welfare Anfaal Saari said the initiative aligns with the 13th Malaysia Plan (MP13), which places emphasis on long-term care (LTC).
The approach is important to ensure the welfare of the people, especially vulnerable groups, continues to be safeguarded through community-based support.
“Under MP13, LTC is understood to have been allocated RM4 billion, and at the state government level, we are planning to establish an initiative called Care Navigator.
“This navigator is important for us to identify the types of needs, where the resources are available, and which agencies need to be aligned,” she said in a Facebook post.
Anfaal added that many people she met, particularly senior citizens, live alone, while many children quietly shoulder the responsibility of caring for both their parents and their own families.
“Many from this ‘sandwich’ generation appear strong, but in reality they are facing challenges that are far from easy,” she said.
Anfaal noted that she had the opportunity to visit the Pandamaran Health Clinic to listen to a presentation by its head Dr Zil, together with representatives from the Pandamaran Health Clinic Senior Citizens Club and the Malaysian Senior Citizens Welfare Association.
Various views and experiences were shared, and all feedback received would be used as a reference in developing Care Navigator Selangor so that the initiative truly reflects the realities faced by the people.
