KLANG, May 24 — More than 1,300 residents took part in the 22nd Malaysia Games (SUKMA) and PARA SUKMA 2026 Torch Run Tour at Laman Seni Safari today.
The second series of the tour drew an encouraging turnout from people of all backgrounds and was held in conjunction with Klang Car-Free Day, which took place simultaneously across the town.
Klang Deputy Mayor Mohd Zary Affendi Mod Arif said the 3.2km run received an overwhelming response from residents since early morning.
“Alhamdulillah (God be praised), as we expected, the weather was beautiful. Many Klang residents were willing to come and arrive as early as the morning to enliven today’s event.
“In Klang, we are a little special because we are organising it together with Klang Car-Free Day. So the crowd is bigger to participate in the run, that is our advantage,” he said.
The SUKMA and PARA SUKMA 2026 Torch Run Tour began on May 10 at Dataran Kemerdekaan, Shah Alam, to build excitement and sportsmanship ahead of the games in August.
Following stops in Shah Alam and Klang, the tour will continue to Kuala Selangor on June 6, then head to Sabak Bernam, Hulu Selangor, Selayang, Ampang Jaya, Kajang, Subang Jaya, Petaling Jaya, and Kuala Langat, before concluding in Sepang on August 9.
Zary also officiated the torch handover ceremony from the Shah Alam City Council delegation led by Shah Alam Deputy Mayor Safriah Md Azhar.
Also present were Selangor SUKMA contingent chief Abbas Salimi Azmi and the Selangor Sports Council’s executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi.
The 22nd edition of SUKMA Selangor 2026 is scheduled to take place from August 15 to August 24, while the PARA SUKMA games will run from September 5 to September 14.
