KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 — The Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) is looking to expedite halal certificate approvals using AI technology.
JAKIM director-general Datuk Sirajuddin Suhaimee said the move would be introduced under the MyeHALAL 2.0 system, supported by the MyHalalIngredients database, in a few months.
“By using existing data, we can leverage it through AI technology. Through MyeHALAL 2.0, the system will review every submitted application based on our database, namely, MyHalalIngredients, which functions as a support system,” he said on Bernama TV’s Ruang Bicara programme last night.
He said this innovation would speed up approvals, in line with the government’s aspiration to support industry growth.
Apart from the use of AI, Sirajuddin said JAKIM also introduced a whitelisting initiative for companies with a high level of commitment and strong compliance records to further expedite halal certification approvals.
“For companies that are highly committed and have never faced any issues, we classify them under the whitelist. This means that if they apply and promptly submit supporting documents, halal certification approval can be completed within a week.
“This is among the factors we take into account… due to the high level of commitment shown by the companies, there is no need for us to make things difficult,” Sirajuddin said.
