SHAH ALAM, May 22 — Public transport users say the My50 monthly pass helps them save up to RM300 a month, but they hope that the frequency of public transport services during peak hours can be improved.
Bank employee Siao Ping, 33, said that using public transport helps her save between RM200 and RM300 monthly compared to driving her own vehicle.
“If you use a personal vehicle, the costs are higher because of petrol and everything else. The RM50 pass is really worthwhile because I travel from Puchong to here. I can save between RM200 and RM300,” she told Media Selangor.
Siao also suggested that Rapid KL improve train frequency and expand public transport coverage.
“Services should be more frequent because right now we sometimes have to wait too long, and they should also cover more areas,” she said.

Commuter SK Morgan, 27, echoed the sentiment, as the My50 pass has greatly reduced his daily expenses, including fuel and other costs.
“For me, My50 is extremely useful because it actually reduces all sorts of expenses like petrol and other spending, since for an entire month we only pay RM50 for the pass.
“That is actually one of the main issues, too, so if they could expand the service coverage, it would be better,” he said.

Another My50 user, who wished to be known only as Chen, 23, said using public transport helps him avoid traffic congestion while reducing fuel and parking expenses.
“I prefer not to drive because the traffic jams are terrible and costs keep increasing. With My50, I can travel to many places, and it is really economical,” he said.
However, Chen hopes the train frequency towards Kajang can be increased to reduce congestion during peak hours.
“I notice that in the evenings, trains heading towards Kajang are less frequent and usually overcrowded,” he said.

Other commuters who spoke to Media Selangor also described public transport as not only cost-saving, but also time-saving.
Meanwhile, Stephenie, 35, said rising fuel prices and increasingly crowded trains affect commuters, although public transport still helps save both money and time.
“Petrol prices have gone up, and traffic congestion is really bad, while the train coaches are often overcrowded, but it still saves a lot of money and time.
“Perhaps they could maintain the trains more frequently because service breakdowns really affect us,” she said.

Similarly, Niddashima Baharudin, 33, also agreed that the unlimited-use My50 travel pass helps commuters save money.
“Because it offers unlimited rides. So if you travel to the office every day, you actually save a lot,” she said.
