ALOR SETAR, May 18 — Police have arrested a man suspected of stabbing a woman in front of a restaurant along Jalan Titi Gajah near here last night.
Kota Setar district police chief ACP Syed Basri Syed Ali said the 32-year-old suspect, who fled after the incident, was detained by police early this morning and is expected to be remanded today to assist investigations.
“Yes. The suspect has been successfully arrested and will be remanded today,” he said, as quoted by Berita Harian.
Earlier, media reported that a 35-year-old woman sustained serious injuries after allegedly being stabbed on the right side of her neck by a man known to her in the 9.19 pm incident.
Syed Basri said the victim was in the driver’s seat of her Mazda car while the suspect was seated in the front passenger seat when the incident occurred.
The suspect allegedly stabbed the woman before fleeing the scene.
“The victim was taken to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar for further treatment and is reported to be in stable condition,” he said at a press conference here last night.
Police believe the suspect and victim knew each other as both worked as real estate agents and were travelling in the same vehicle during the incident, although the exact nature of their relationship has yet to be determined.
Syed Basri said police were still investigating the motive behind the incident and were also tracing the weapon allegedly used in the attack.
The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code.
