SHAH ALAM, May 16 — The Selangor government is reviewing a proposal to increase allowances for Al-Quran and Fardu Ain Classes (KAFA) teachers from RM1,500 to RM1,700 as part of efforts to strengthen the welfare of religious educators.
State executive councillor for Islam and innovation Dr Fahmi Ngah said the proposal paper will be tabled at the State Executive Council (MMKN) meeting this month before a final decision is made.
“A study is being conducted. God willing, if it cannot be implemented this year, we will include it in the next Selangor Budget for implementation next year.
“This effort is made to ensure KAFA teachers receive a minimum salary aligned with Selangor’s minimum wage. Therefore, there is a need for downward communication and initiatives by the state government,” he said.
He said this after officiating the launch of the Liqa’ Mahabbah KAFA Teachers programme for the Petaling district at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque here today.
Earlier, about 1,500 KAFA teachers from Petaling attended the programme to receive updates on the direction of early Islamic education and to strengthen ties among educators.
Fahmi said the Liqa’ Mahabbah programme will be expanded to other districts to engage KAFA teachers and better understand their issues and challenges.
At the same event, a new name tag was also launched as part of efforts to rebrand KAFA teachers in the state.
“KAFA teachers should not be seen as separate from the state government. They are part of us, so we are rebranding them by providing new name tags with a unified logo.
“We hope this initiative will make them feel more integrated with the state government in achieving the mission and agenda of developing children based on the Quran and Sunnah,” he said.
