Govt activates comprehensive interventions to address global supply chain crisis

PUTRAJAYA, May 14 — The Transport Ministry (MOT) is implementing a more comprehensive and integrated intervention approach across the land, aviation, and maritime sectors to ensure the people’s well-being despite increasing global supply chain challenges.

In a Facebook post today, MOT said its main focus is to protect consumer welfare, strengthen the resilience of the national logistics system, and ensure the smooth movement of goods and people.

It said this effort would be boosted with close cooperation with major transport operators, authorities, and industry players to mitigate the impact of operational costs and ensure public mobility remains sustainable and affordable.

“MOT remains prepared and responsive in facing global challenges to support inclusive and resilient Malaysia Madani aspirations,” read the post.

For the land sector, the MOT said it would ease living cost burdens by encouraging a shift to public transport with various initiatives, including a 30 per cent fare discount for ETS and ERT, operated by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB), from Monday to Thursday.

Savings are also offered through the My50 Pass, Rapid Kota Pass, and Rapid Keluarga Pass, while ERL users enjoy discounts of up to 40 per cent through the Monthly Travel Card specifically for public servants and aviation industry workers.

According to MOT, the Grab Group Ride feature has also been introduced to allow users to enjoy savings of up to 40 per cent, in addition to offering more efficient travel and flexible payment methods.

For the aviation sector, the MOT said strategic interventions have been activated to minimise the impact of global flight disruptions, including the allocation of RM5 million for rebates on domestic tickets from Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan this month and next month.

The ministry also announced a 60-day fee credit period and exemption on aircraft parking charges.

In addition, the MOT said the two-month suspension of the Passenger Boarding Bridge (PBB) and Common Infrastructure Charges (CIC) is to ensure cash flow stability in the aviation industry.

For the maritime sector, the MOT said among the measures implemented are the relocation of empty containers to external depots to prioritise the handling of loaded containers, and controlled fuel surcharges for passenger ferries and roll-on, roll-off services by establishing a ceiling price.

MOT also issued guidelines to port authorities to ensure Malaysia remains a resilient alternative port destination.
