AMPANG JAYA, May 12 — Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah and Datin Paduka Seri Afzaa Fadini Dato’ Abdul Aziz today visited the newly reopened Puncak Ampang Look Out Point (ALOP), reflecting the state’s continued commitment to empower its ecotourism sector.
His Highness was welcomed by state executive councillor for rural development and unity Datuk Rizam Ismail and state executive councillor for public health and environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin.
The Raja Muda then listened to a briefing by Tourism Selangor chief executive officer Chua Yee Ling about Puncak ALOP’s development and its potential as the state’s new ecotourism destination.
His Highness then enjoyed the panoramic view of Kuala Lumpur from the lookout point and the sunset at Puncak Hauz with Afzaa Fadini. Puncak ALOP, located in a low-lying dipterocarp jungle at 260m above sea level, offers a wide panoramic view of nearly the entirety of Kuala Lumpur.
The area is also a destination of choice for nighttime recreational activities among youth, as well as a hotspot for cyclists.
Meanwhile, Chua said that not even two months after its reopening, Puncak ALOP has been visited by tourists including those from Hong Kong, Taiwan and China.
“This new development just entered its first phase, which focuses on food and beverage amenities, before it is expanded with caravans, campsites, and event spaces.
“This shows the potential of geotourism in Selangor to keep growing, as the state has received National Geopark status.
“We are also aiming for a UNESCO Global Geopark application in the future, which would elevate Selangor as a tourism destination of international standard,” she told Media Selangor when met at Puncak ALOP today.
The reopening of Puncak ALOP was officiated by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari on March 30.
