Cops detain foreign women in Cheras drug bust

KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 — The police crippled a drug trafficking syndicate that used foreign women as runners or couriers following the arrest of 14 individuals in three raids around Cheras on Friday (May 8).

Cheras police chief ACP Rosdi Daud said the raids, conducted between 11am and 1.15pm, led to the arrest of 10 Vietnamese women.

“Also detained in the operation at a hotel in Taman Maluri and two houses in Bukit Jalil were two local men, a Bangladeshi man, and a local woman,” he said during a media conference at the Cheras district police headquarters today.

Rosdi added that the Vietnamese women were paid RM100 for each delivery made to customers, and that all of them possessed valid travel documents.

The police also seized 0.31g of methamphetamine, 2.65g of ketamine, 3,040mm of liquid MDMA and 961.72g of MDMA powder, with a total estimated value of RM7,247.

Initial investigations found the syndicate had been active in drug distribution around the Klang Valley for the past three months.

“Nine of the 14 suspects tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, and ketamine during initial screening, but none had prior criminal records,” he said.

All suspects, aged between their 20s and 30s, have been remanded for seven days until Friday (May 15) to assist in investigations under Section 39B, Section 12(2), and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

In another development, he said they arrested two local men and seized drugs worth RM19,700 in two raids conducted in Taman Tenaga, Cheras and Jalan Sungai Besi on Friday and Saturday (May 9).

The first raid, carried out at 11.35pm on Friday at a rented room in Taman Tenaga, led to the arrest of a man in his 40s and the seizure of MDMA powder and liquid, ecstasy pills, and Erimin 5 pills worth RM13,700.

“The second raid at 10.35pm on Saturday at a condominium in Jalan Sungai Besi resulted in the arrest of another man in his 40s and the seizure of liquid MDMA, ketamine, and drug-laced vape cartridges worth RM6,000,” Rosdi said.

The second suspect tested positive for ketamine and had one wanted record linked to drug offences, while the first suspect tested negative in a urine screening.

Both suspects were remanded for five days until Thursday (May 14) to assist investigations under Section 39B and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
