SHAH ALAM, May 12 — State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato’ Izham Hashim has directed relevant agencies to immediately prepare an action plan following a recent flash flood incident at Medan Selera 223 in Petaling Jaya.
Izham said he visited the location to conduct a detailed technical inspection after the incident, which affected traders’ livelihoods and disrupted the comfort of visitors at the popular food court.
“The inspection was carried out together with Hee Loy Sian, Taman Medan state constituency coordinator, Halimey Abu Bakar, officers from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS), the Public Works Department (JKR), as well as councillors and personnel from the Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ),”
“The incident is deeply regrettable as it not only affected the income of traders but also inconvenienced visitors in this busy area,” he said in a Facebook post.
The statements follow a recent flooding incident at Medan Selera 223 in Petaling Jaya, which affected traders who were granted a two-month rental exemption by MBPJ.
MBPJ had also said that, as part of preparedness efforts, it would integrate smart water level sensors with CCTV systems at flood-prone locations to monitor rising water levels.
Izham said discussions with the technical team on site found an urgent need to upgrade the drainage system in the surrounding area to ensure smoother water flow during heavy rain.
“The agencies involved have been instructed to submit an immediate action plan to address the issue and prevent similar incidents from recurring,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to all parties who had provided feedback regarding the incident, adding that the Selangor government remains committed to improving infrastructure for the well-being of the people.
