Illegal cockfighting ring raided, 22 arrested, RM18,000 seized in Bukit Lagong

SHAH ALAM, May 11 — A forested area in Bukit Lagong, Sungai Buloh, which had been converted into an illegal cockfighting ring, was raided by police on Saturday (May 9).

Sinar Harian reported that the operation was conducted by the Sungai Buloh district police headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Division, in collaboration with the Veterinary Services Department.

During the raid, several gamblers attempted to flee the scene, but they could not evade the operational team's swift actions.

Initial police investigations revealed that the location was also being used as a gathering spot for betting on bola golek gambling and public lotteries. Intelligence reports suggested that the site had been operational for approximately one month.

12 live roosters and one carcass were seized from the operation to assist with the investigation, with the total value of confiscated items estimated at RM18,000.

The operation commenced at approximately 4pm and led to the arrest of 22 men in their 20s to 70s. One of the detainees, an Indonesian national, is suspected of being the organiser of the illegal cockfighting activities.

Sungai Buloh district police chief Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said the suspects comprise 10 locals and 12 Indonesians.“Initial investigation indicates betting prices ranged between RM500 and RM3,000 per game,” he said.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953, Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, and Sections 32(1) and 32(2) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015.
