SYDNEY, May 11 — Artificial Intelligence (AI) training organised by the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC) is expected to produce creators of new technology and not just users.
Its chief executive officer Harizal Hamid said that currently, 10 trainees are undergoing high-impact training through the Google Cloud ecosystem in Malaysia.
“Students have efficient exposure and skills about AI. They have mastered the use of prompts well, but we want them to manage and design the next technological innovation.
“So, the step that needs to be taken is to prepare them not to be mere users of AI, but rather innovators who operate technology in the future,” he said.
He was speaking to the media after the closing ceremony of Selangor Student Convention Abroad Australia at the PARKROYAL Darling Harbour Hotel, on Saturday (May 9).
STDC participated in the convention with a presentation titled ‘Empowering Selangor Students with Good Cloud AI’, which focuses on developing digital talent and mastering AI technology.
It highlighted the institution’s strategic approach to providing training through the Google Cloud ecosystem, including Generative AI, MLOps, Secure Model Deployment, Multimodal Development, and AI Governance & Security.
Harizal added that approximately 60 to 80 new students will be trained with Google Cloud AI this year through grants obtained from the Smart Selangor Technical and Vocational Skills Initiative (IKTISASS).
“This number has increased compared to four years ago, when those trained under AI. Before that, under the Apple certification programme, some students were also oriented on the use of AI in iOS platforms and media,” he said.
Harizal also noted that some students are now serving as cybersecurity officers and AI technology design hackers through STDC training.
